앙투안 바토의 <키테라 섬의 순례>에 대한 언술행위이론적 접근
사람이 자신의 사고 내용을 말이나 글로 표현 representation 하듯이 화가 역시 자신의 생각을 그림을 통해 표현한다. 언어를 분석함에 있어서 문장을 구성하는 요소들과, 요소들 사이의 관계를 파악하는 것이 중요하듯이 그림의 의미를 알기 위해서도 그림을 구성하는 요소들과 요소들 사이의 관계를 이해하는 것은 중요하다. 본 논문의 분석 대상인 앙투안 바토의 <키테라섬의 순례>에도 수많은 구성요소들이 있다. 우리는 각 구성요소들의 개념과 그 개념들 사이의 관계를 살펴봄으로써 이 그림을 통해 바토가 표현하고자하는 의미를 파악하고자 했다. 이를 위해 연구자는 뀔리올리의 언술행위이론을 분석도구로 활용하였다. 언어의 상징적 활동 symbolique activity에 주 관심을 둔 뀔리올리는 언어 표면에 나타난 표지를 항상 숨어 있는 작용들의 흔적으로 보고 겉으로 드러나지는 않으나 우리의 인식차원에서 존재하는 불변의 작용들로써 설명하고자 했다. 연구자가 그림 속의 요소들(아프로디테 석상, 강아지, 썩은 나무 등)과 등장인물들(남녀 쌍들, 뱃사공, 푸토들, 세이렌 등)의 개념과 그들 사이의 관계를 언술행위이론 중 개념영역과 (의미)한정작용에 관한 이론을 통해 살펴본 결과, 바토가 이 그림을 통해 표현하고자 하는 의미는 사랑이다. 좀 더 구체적으로 말하자면 남녀의 사랑의 시작과 전개과정에서 생길 수 있는 여러 가지 심리적 상황들이 복합적이고 유동적이며 다원적으로 표현되었다. 이처럼 바토는 사랑의 속성(밝은 면과 어두운 면)을 하나의 화폭에 세심하게 재현해 내고 있다.
The artist expresses his thoughts on paintings, as we do ours through the speeches and the writings. It’s important for us to understand the compositions of a sentence in linguistic analysis. Likewise in a painting, it’s important to apprehend the relationships between the elements. Not a few of the comparable elements were manifested in Jean Antoine Watteau(1684~1721)'s The Pilgrimage to Cythera, which is the analysis object of this thesis. This study aims to read the meanings of this painting in which Watteau tried to convey, by examining the connotations of the elements and the relations between them. For this analysis, this study would use Culioli's theory of enunciative operations as a tool. Focused on the symbolic actions of the language Culioli tries to explain the markers as the vestiges of the potential operations, and as the invariable operations. They don't come to the surface of awareness, but exist on a cognizable dimension. This study aims to determine the notion of the elements in painting and the characters and the relations between them, through the notional domain theory. The meaning which Watteau intended to convey, is “love”. The various psychological processes surrounding a lovely relationship are described diversely in Watteau's painting. Watteau represents the properties of love(the bright and dark side) detailedly on a canvas.
