사물인터넷과 초연결사회 : 개념적 토대 및 기술인문학의 가능성
오늘날 정보통신기술(ICT) 분야의 최대 화두라 할 수 있는 사물인터넷(Internet of Things, IoT)은 사람과 사람 사이의 소통은 물론 사람과 사물, 사물과 사물 간 커뮤니케이션이 가능한 새로운 생태계를 뜻한다. 즉 사물인터넷은 고도의 편재성(ubiquity)과 상호연결성을 기반으로 인간의 직접적인 개입 없이도 다양한 사물들 사이의 복합적 연결과 포괄적 커뮤니케이션을 실현한다. 이와 같은 사물과 사람이 거대 네트워크 속에서 상시 접속하고 상호작용하는 초연결사회(Hyper Connected Society)의 도래와 더불어, 사물인터넷에 위한 인문학적 해석과 비전이 시급히 요청되는 결정적 이유는, 바로 그것이 한낱 특출한 기술이나 단편적인 물성의 변화에 대한 것이 아니라, 사회 구성원들에게 부여되는 새로운 가치의 문제를 제기하기 때문이다. 본 연구의 기본 토대는 사물인터넷의 기본 개념과 지향 가치, 이를 둘러싼 정치⋅사회⋅문화적 제도와 정책들의 구성을 파악하는 일이다. 즉 사물인터넷이라는 기술 확산의 결과 야기될 수 있는 다양한 인간 행위와 그 전제 조건을 해명함으로써 사물인터넷이 불러오는 문명사적 변동에 대한 인문학적 고찰과 제언을 시도하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 사물인터넷과 연관된 용어들을 계보학적으로 분류 정리하고 인문학의 시각에서 종합적인 개념적 토대를 재정립할 것이다. 특히 사물인터넷을 산업경제과 직결된 테크놀로지로만 인지하는 편협한 시각을 탈피하여 사물인터넷과 초연결성이야말로 근본적으로 인간적이고 사회적인 사안이라는 점을 사물-인간, 사물-사물의 근본적인 관계성과 연결성을 기반으로 적극적으로 규명할 것이다. 또한 본 연구는 사물인터넷과 초연결사회의 민첩한 도래에 대비하여 기술인문학이라는 새로운 패러다임의 가능성을 타진할 것이다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 작금의 기술적 혁신이 제공하는 장밋빛 미래 비전에 대해 문명사적 변동이라는 전체론적 관점에서 질문하고 회의하며, 우리가 궁극적으로 추구해야할 인간적 가치를 주의깊게 사유할 것이다.
Internet of Things and hyper-connected society : Conceptual foundation and possibilities of the technique humanities
This study searches for not only a basic notion and value orientation of Internet of Things but also the formation of political, social and cultural institutions and policies around it. Therefore, this study aims to examine various human behaviors and social conditions, which are to be caused by the technological diffusion of IoT before long, so that we would present humanistic considerations and suggestions for the future of our current civilization. First of all, this research endeavors to contemplate diverse terms that are related to IoT in one genealogical spectrum. It tries to provide an integrated conceptual foundation of IoT from the humanistic perspective. Furthermore, this project aims to construct a new paradigm of techno-humanities in order to prepare for the rapid advent of hyper- connected society along with IoT. This study intends to develop multi-dimensional discourses in its efforts to prospect any possible civilizational changes by the future of IoT. A successful completion of this research will introduce a vision of transdisciplinary research platform for both the significant achievement of IoT and the solid implementation of hyper-connected society of Korea.
