A Comparative Study on Religious View through Egyptian, Lebanese and Moroccan Proverbs

Kim, Jong-Do

This paper aims to examine the religious view of the populace in the proverbs of Egypt, Lebanon, and Morocco, which are dominated by Islam. Because each culture is different and experiences are different, the degree of awe about God may appears as an absolute obedience and resentment through their proverbs and sometimes there are several proverbs in which the hostility toward the other religions is extremely expressed. It is clear from this paper that the Arabs are expressing their candid feelings as a teaching lesson, using the proverbs as an index of their life, These proverbs are that the incomplete human being is sometimes crystallized from the wisdom of life in many different situations that rush toward perfection. In the Egyptian proverbs, human beings generally conform to God, and the Lebanese proverbs showed a relatively large number of rebellious appearances against the saints and God due to a complex social environment. On the other hand, the Moroccan proverbs expressed much hostility towards the other religions. In conclusion, through this research, Islam is also a people-centered religion and according to human emotional ups and downs God and religions are friendly to human being, but sometimes they are the subject to resentment or to keep at a distance.
