SNS상의 이미지 생산과 의미에 관한 연구 : ‘먹스타그램’ 사례를 중심으로
본 최근 몇 년 간 한국 사회는 인스타그램상의 음식 이미지인 ‘먹스타그램’의 괄목할 만한 성장을 경험했다. 이 연구는 먹스타그램 사례를 통해 소셜 미디어상의 이미지 생산을 면밀히 살피고 그것의 사회문화적 함의를 밝히고자 한다. 이를 위해 시각연구 및 미디어연구의 논의를 바탕으로 먹스타그램 이미지의 기술적·구성적·사회적 양식을 분석하였다. 기술적 양식의 측면에서 분석한 결과, 먹스타그램에서 미디어 어포던스와 실시간성의 강조, 그리고 상호작용을 촉진하는 요소를 발견할 수 있었다. 구성적 양식의 측면에서 먹스타그램은 캐주얼한 일상사진으로 구분 지을 수 있었으며, 시각적 기록의 역할을 수행하면서도 푸드 포르노적인 요소를 포함하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 사회적 양식의 측면에서 먹스타그램의 기록성과 전시효과를 지녔고, 상호텍스트적 지식을 구성하고 있었다. 뿐만 아니라, 이용자 간에 사회규범으로 작동하면서 디지털 미디어 이용의 일상성을 잘 드러낸 사례로 볼 수 있었다. 분석 결과를 통해 본 먹스타그램은 기존의 음식 이미지를 재맥락화했다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 또한 먹스타그램을 통해 소셜 미디어가 현대인의 정체성 구축에 있어 주요한 사회적 공간으로 기능하고 있음을 확인했다.
A Study on the Meaning of Posting Images on Social Media : Focus on “Mukstagrams”
In recent years, the popularity of food-related images, or “mukstagrams”, as a social media activity has been developing at a remarkable pace. This study explores the posting of images on social media and its socio-cultural implications, analyzing the technical, compositional, and social structures of “mukstagrams” based on theories of visual and media studies. Technical analysis demonstrates that “mukstagrams” emphasize social media affordance and real-time sharing, particularly in promoting interactions with others. From a compositional perspective, “mukstagrams” are casual depictions of everyday life, serving as a visual diary of one's daily events and appealing to the “food porn” crowd. Lastly, from a social perspective, “mukstagrams” serve as a record of one's life and as an exhibition of one's gastronomic outings on display for all to see, while also offering a platform for interactions with other users through comments and replies. “Mukstagrams” have become a core element of today's social norms among those who engage in social media, demonstrating the importance of digital media in everyday life. Results from this study indicate that there are noticeable implications in the role of “mukstagrams” in changing the context of food-related images. Furthermore, “mukstagrams” confirm the important role of social media in today's society as a space where individuals can develop their own identities.
