중국 전통미학의 관점에서 본 천카이거(陳凱歌) 영화 : <요묘전(妖猫傳) : 레전드 오브 더 데몬 캣>(2018)의 ‘응시’가 그려내는 ‘진환(眞幻)’
전통적인 중국 문화의 아름다움을 영화적으로 전시하는 데 탁월한 역량 을 보여 온 천카이거 감독의 최신작 <요묘전: 레전드 오브 더 데몬 캣(妖 猫傳, Legend of the Demon Cat)>(2018)은 추리극의 형식을 띤 고장현 환(古裝玄幻) 블록버스터 무비로서 허구와 실제, 현실과 환상을 뒤섞는 스펙터클을 앞세워 중국 역사상 가장 화려한 문화를 꽃피웠던 당나라의 수 도 장안과 성당(盛唐)의 태평성대(太平聖代)라는 역사의 한 장면을 시각적 으로 재현하는 데 성공했다. ‘보이지 않았던’ 문학적 상상이 ‘눈에 보이는’ 영화적 표상으로 살아난 것이다. 본고는 이와 같은 허실상생(虛實相生)과 기관(奇觀)이 추구하는 미학적 경지를 중국 전통미학의 ‘진환(眞幻)’ 이론으로 고찰하고, 이를 영상기호학 의 주요 개념인 ‘응시(gaze)’를 통해 해명하고자 했다. 이는 중국의 전통 미학을 통한 영화 텍스트의 분석인 동시에 영상기호 개념에 의한 중국 전 통미학의 이해를 위한 학술적 시도라 할 것이다. 이러한 방법론을 통해, <요묘전>의 텍스트는 진실을 추구하는 응시, 권력을 추구하는 응시, 인정 을 추구하는 응시, 역응시의 서로 다른 관점에서 해독되었으며, 연구자는 그 시선의 교차와 ‘응시’의 저항 가능성이 허구(幻) 속의 사실(眞), 현실 (眞) 속의 거짓(幻), 환상(幻) 속의 진실(眞), 꿈(幻) 속의 진정한 추구(眞) 등 ‘진’과 ‘환’의 교차와 변환을 일으키는 동인이라는 점을 파악할 수 있었 다. 또한 이러한 작업은 ‘진’과 ‘환’의 교직이야말로 예술적 아름다움의 진 정한 미학적 경지라는 중국 전통미학의 전제를 확인시켜주는 하나의 사례 라는 사실을 재인시켜 주었다.
Chen Kai-Ge(陳凱歌)'s Movie from the Viewpoint of Traditional Chinese aesthetics : The “Jin-Huan(眞幻)”, which is depicted by the “gaze” of “Legend of the Daemon Cat”(2018)
Director Chen Kai-Ge(陳凱歌)'s latest film, “Legend of the Daemon Cat” (2018), which has shown exceptional ability to exhibit the beauty of traditional Chinese culture in a cinematic manner, is a tangible. With the spectacle that mixes reality and fantasy, he successfully reproduced a scene of the history of Tae-Pyeong-Sung-Dae(太平聖代) in Chang'an(長安), the capital of Tang(唐) Dynasty, which boasted the most brilliant culture in Chinese history. In other word, the ‘invisible’ literary imagination was reborn as a ‘visible’ cinematic representation. This paper considered such aesthetic pursuits as “Jin-Huan(眞幻)” theories of traditional Chinese aesthetics and tried to explain them through “gaze,” a major concept of video symbolism. The attempt this time is will be an analysis of movie text through traditional Chinese aesthetics, and also an attempt to analyze it by image symbol concept. Through this methodology, the texts of “Legend of the Daemon Cat” can be deciphered from different perspectives on gaze of truth-seeking, gaze of power-seeking, gaze of the human touch, and the count gaze. The researchers were able to identify that the intersections between the eyes and the gaze, potential for resistance to “domination” were drivers that caused the intersection and transformation of “truth” in fiction, “false” in actuality, and “true pursuit” in dreams. It has also been confirmed that teaching jobs of “Jin” and “Hwan” is one example that confirms the premise of traditional Chinese aesthetics, which is the true aesthetic landscape of artistic beauty.
