하먼의 예술론 : 미적 긴장과 은유의 미학
본 논문은 하먼의 예술론을 그의 철학 체계(OOO)와 미학적 관점에서 고찰하되, 그 요체를 미적 긴장의 미학과 은유의 존재론적 메커니즘을 통 해 규명하고 나아가 그것의 예술적 적용 가능성을 탐구한다. 하먼의 예술 론은 자신의 철학 체계에서 도출된 것임에도 여러 면에서 중요한 예술적 함의를 가진다. 그는 객체의 비직서적 성질에 의존한다는 이유로 미학에 제일 철학의 지위를 부여하고, 직서주의를 본질적으로 멀리하는 예술에 실재를 탐구할 수 있는 역할을 부여한다. 그는 예술의 비직서적 객체가 실재를 은유적으로 접촉할 수 있게 함으로써 실재를 지식 없이 인식하는 기능을 갖는다고 말한다. 이는 예술과 실재의 관계에 대한 오랜 미학적 문제에 중대한 시사를 준다. 한편, 그의 존재론적 은유론은 객체의 기본 구조로서 객체의 네 극 간 의 긴장 관계 중 특히 매혹 혹은 아름다움이라 불리는 실재 객체와 감각 성질 간의 미적 긴장이 예술에서 어떻게 은유를 통해 작동하는지를 구체 적으로 분석한다. 그의 은유론은 예술의 핵심 기제를 은유로 설명함으로 써 예술의 본질을 알려줌과 동시에 구체적으로 개별 예술작품의 미적 기 제를 분석할 수 있는 유용한 도구를 제공한다. 특히 본 연구에서는 하먼 의 은유론이 시각예술 분석에 어떻게 적용될 수 있는지 구체적으로 예증 한다.
Harman's Theory of Art : Aesthetics of Aesthetic Tension and Metaphor
This paper critically examines Graham Harman's theory of art within the context of his philosophical framework(Object-Oriented Ontology, OOO) and from an aesthetic perspective. It seeks to elucidate the essence of theory of art through the concept of ‘aesthetic tension’ and the ontological mechanisms of metaphor, exploring its potential artistic applications. Despite being derived from his philosophical system, Harman's art theory holds significant artistic implications in various aspects. Grounded in the non-literal nature of objects in his philosophy, he accords aesthetics the foremost position in philosophy, endowing it with the role of exploring reality in art, inherently distancing itself from object-oriented philosophies. Harman argues that the non-literal objects in art possess the capability to metaphorically touch upon reality, allowing for the cognition of reality without knowledge. This assertion holds profound implications for longstanding aesthetic questions concerning art and reality. On another note, his ontological theory of metaphor delves into the fundamental structure of objects, specifically analyzing the aesthetic tension between real objects and sensory qualities, often referred to as ‘allure’ or ‘beauty’. Harman's theory of metaphor provides a concrete analysis of how aesthetic tension operates in art through metaphor. By explaining the core mechanism of art through metaphor, it not only reveals the essence of art but also offers a valuable tool for the analysis of the aesthetic foundations of individual artworks. This paper, particularly using visual arts as examples, provides concrete instances illustrating how Harman's metaphor theory can be applied in the analysis of artworks.
